Painfully shy Todd Anderson (Ethan Hawke) has been sent to the school where his popular older brother was valedictorian. His roommate, Neil, although exceedingly bright and popular, is very much under the thumb of his overbearing father. The two, along with their other friends, meet Professor Keating (Robin Williams), their new English teacher, who tells them about the Dead Poets Society, and encourages them to go against the status quo. Each does this in his own way, and is changed for life.

Aladdin is a street urchin who lives in the city of Agrabah with his faithful monkey friend Abu. When the Princess Jasmine gets tired of being forced to remain in the palace overlooking the city, she sneaks out to the marketplace, where she accidentally meets Aladdin. By the order of the sultan’s evil advisor Jafar, Aladdin is thrown in jail and becomes caught up in Jafar’s plot to rule the land with the aid of a mysterious lamp. Legend has it that only a person who is a “diamond in the rough” can retrieve the lamp from the Cave of Wonders. Aladdin might fit that description, but still isn’t eligible to marry the princess, who must (by law) marry a prince.

1. So many of Robin Williams’s lines as the Genie were improvised that the film was turned down for a Best Adapted Screenplay Academy Award nomination.

2. This movie came out in 1992, the same year that many incoming freshmen were born.

3. Aladdin’s pants were based on MC Hammer’s pants.
